Let’s get into it. Happy hour at The Cardinal runs daily from 3pm to 6pm and the pricing is straightforward in the best possible way.

On the drinks side, specialty cocktails like the Cardinal Crush, the Grand Old Fashion, the Hibiscus Mule are $3 off, bringing some of the best cocktails on the menu into easy reach. Draft beers run $5. House wine is $5. Domestic bottles are $4. PBR 16oz cans are $3. Twisted Teas are $3.

That’s a bar program built for people who actually want to enjoy themselves without doing math all night.

The Food

Here’s where The Cardinal separates itself from every other happy hour in Virginia Beach: the kitchen doesn’t take the hour off.

The happy hour food menu is tight, intentional, and priced to make ordering easy. At $8 each, the Brisket Chili and Cheese Curly Fries, the Chicken Sammie with Fries, and the Single Patty Smash Burger with Fries are the kind of happy hour food that makes you wonder why you’ve been settling for sad appetizer platters everywhere else. The Tillamook Cheddar Cheese Curds and the Braised Beef Sliders, three to an order, come in at $6 and are exactly as good as they sound.

The Room

Walk into The Cardinal during happy hour and you’ll notice the room before you notice anything else. Bold patterned booths, cobalt blue seating, orange bar chairs, light wood floors, and tropical plants running the length of the dining room. A mural by local artist Jeff Tarkenton that stops you cold. Pendant lights that make everything feel warmer than it probably is.
