Things To Do: Virginia Beach In Fall, 2026
From the Neptune Festival to the Boardwalk Art Show, Virginia Beach's fall calendar is stacked. Here's what's coming up and why The Cardinal is your perfect home base.
Here’s something Virginia Beach locals know that the rest of the world is still figuring out: fall is the best time to be here.
The summer crowds thin out. The water is still warm. The event calendar somehow gets better. And the restaurants that were packed wall-to-wall in July suddenly feel like they belong to the people who call VB home.
If you’ve been waiting for the right moment to explore Virginia Beach at its best, this is it. Here’s what’s on the calendar through early October, and how to make the most of every weekend between now and then.

Super Girl Surf Festival — September 5–7
The Super Girl Surf Festival is a celebration of women in surf featuring elite competition, wellness workouts, speaker panels, and live entertainment set against the Virginia Beach waves. Labor Day weekend, Oceanfront. A great way to kick off the fall stretch of the calendar.
NAS Oceana Air Show — September 19–20
The 2026 NAS Oceana Air Show is one of Virginia Beach’s key events tied to America’s 250th anniversary celebrations, and one of the largest air shows on the East Coast, featuring military aircraft demonstrations that draw crowds from across the region. Free to attend and absolutely worth the trip.
Neptune Festival Boardwalk Weekend — September 25–27
This is the crown jewel of Virginia Beach’s fall calendar. The Neptune Festival Boardwalk Weekend features surfing competitions, concerts, a parade, and sand sculptures taking over the Boardwalk September 25–27. The International Sandsculpting Championship runs September 25 through October 4 with world-class artists turning sand into something that doesn’t look like it should be possible. Hundreds of thousands of people show up for this one every year. Plan accordingly.
Boardwalk Art Show — October 9–11
The Boardwalk Art Show runs October 9th – 11th. Enjoy arts and crafts under the sun on the Boardwalk with an unbeatable backdrop of the Atlantic Ocean. A great excuse to spend a weekend on the Oceanfront when the summer chaos has fully cleared out and the city feels most like itself.
Movies on the Fountain Plaza — September through October
Town Center of Virginia Beach hosts a series of free outdoor movie screenings each Saturday night at sunset throughout September and October. Bring your own blankets and chairs and enjoy free popcorn while it lasts. Low-key, local, and a great way to spend a fall Saturday evening in Virginia Beach.

Make The Cardinal Your Home Base
Every great day out deserves a great meal to anchor it. Whether you’re coming in off the beach after the Neptune Festival, winding down from the Air Show, or just making a weekend of the Boardwalk Art Show, The Cardinal at 1900 Pavilion Drive is right where you want to end up.
Chef Brandy’s Playful Americana menu was built for exactly this kind of season. The VA Short Rib with Mop Sauce, the Shrimp and Grits drizzled with Old Bay and Calabrian chili oil, the Firecracker Burger built on Calabrian chili aioli and pepperjack are all excellent options to make a good day great and a great day unforgettable. A Cardinal Crush to start. A S’mores Dip to finish. Live music several nights a week to keep the night going.
The cardinal doesn’t migrate when summer ends. Neither does this room.
Fall in Virginia Beach is worth showing up for. So is dinner at The Cardinal.
